This week, Jacob Jonas The Company will present five premieres at the Wallis’ intimate Lovelace Studio Theater.

The nightly program includes three world premieres choreographed by company founder and director Jacob Jonas: MAKE A TOAST, CRASH, and the opening number TRANSFER, in which Jonas—joined by company veterans Lamonte Goode, Jacob “Kujo” Lyons, Mike Tyus, and Jill Wilson—will dance.

Also on the bill are the world premieres of Donald Byrd’s UNKNOWN TERRITORIES and Omar Román De Jesús’ CUPIDO.

CRASH, which closes the evening, features a live score composed and performed by Okaidja Afroso.

PARSONS DANCE AT THE JOYCE

Parsons Dance will present two world premieres during its May 2017 engagement at the Joyce Theater in Chelsea.

DANIEL (2017), choreographed by Omar Román De Jesús, which “explores the youthful and uninhibited pursuit of joy,” was inspired by the choreographer’s work with dancers on the autism spectrum.*

UP END (2017), choreographed by Ephrat “Bounce” Asherie and company founder David Parsons, features a commissioned score by Marty Beller. UP END is Parson Dance’s first exploration of hip–hop and street dance. (Both choreographers will perform their dances with the company.)

Program A also includes audience favorite CAUGHT (1982), HAND DANCE, and SWING SHIFT (both 2003). Program B brings back SLEEP STUDY (1987), and IN THE END (2003). All by Parsons.
