WEEKLY WRAP UP | JULY 28 – AUG. 1, 2014

Museum of Neon Art

Museum of Neon Art, Los Angeles

This week on the blog we traveled to Sequoia National Park to the giant General Sherman Tree and the magical Crystal Cave. In Europe, we ventured to the island of Antiparos in the Cyclades, where Zürich-based gallery Eva Presenhuber inaugurated the new space Kastro. We turned you on to the music of Caandides, the film Slaves of New York, and the French fashion label rue blanche. And in Los Angeles we toured the exhibition Contort Yourself at Kayne Griffin Corcoran. Check this week out, and stay tuned for more!

CRYSTAL CAVE

IMG_4225Sequoia National Park abounds with wonder! A mere 45 minute drive down a winding road from The General Sherman Tree – the largest living organism in the world! – is a large cave. Crystal Cave was absolutely magical. The parks service has installed lights, so that visitors to the cave can check out the natural beauty – sparkling rocks, melting globules that seem frozen, yet continue to change through time, small pools of water and little streams that carve winding channels.

The General Sherman Tree

The General Sherman Tree is the largest living organism on earth! It lives in Sequoia National Park in California. In 1879 it was named by James Wolverton, a naturalist who served as a lieutenant under General Sherman in the American Civil War.

I visited the park this past weekend and was blown away by the great mass and beauty of the sequoia trees, and was particularly impressed with the General Sherman Tree, which is the largest tree by volume in the world!
