FAYE DRISCOLL — WEATHERING

154

I think that when you feel connected and are not distracted, there is a greater increased possibility that you will feel joy.Faye Driscoll*

And the possibilities of feeling joy are particularly desired right now in these harsh days of early 2025. The attention spectrum that runs from focus to distraction has always been a challenge to navigate, and now—in the midst of our chaos—comes a world foretold in Faye Driscoll’s Weathering.

Described by Jesse Zaritt as “totalizing”—It feels eerily close to the extremes of my lived experience. I know what it is like to try so hard, to feel too much, to fail to hold it all together, to face the storm of the present rushing into the future while colliding with the past—this 75-minute dance/movement work was first staged in New York City in April, 2023, and has been touring intermittently ever since. As dancers James Barrett, Kara Brody, Miguel Alejandro Castillo, Amy Gernux, Maya LaLiberté, Mykel Marai Nairne, Jennifer Nugent, Cory Seals, Carlo Antonio Villanueva, and Jo Warren unwind an ever-shifting vortex, connection is assured as the audience surrounds a rotating stage in close proximity.

The West Coast premiere engagement at REDCAT will feature a post-show conversation with Driscoll and Katy Dammers, as well as a weekend afternoon warm-up—where local dancers can join the Weathering company in their pre-show ritual. A key cultural event of the season, this “multi-sensory flesh sculpture… a requiem for the body in the world” (per its choreographer) will be here for three nights only. See links and info below for details.
